Major General Andy Salmon CMG OBE has been in the Royal Marines since 1977. His operational service includes several tours of Northern Ireland, the Falklands War (1982), Northern Iraq (1991), Angola (1992), Sierra Leone (twice in 2000), Baghdad (2003) and latterly as Commander of Coalition Forces in Basra, South East Iraq (2008/9).  Recently, he was Commander UK Amphibious Forces and Commandant General Royal Marines and is now in NATO responsible for generating and preparing NATO forces for operations worldwide.
